Self Portrait Challenge:Self as Devotee
Jon took this picture of me at the Kali Puja. I took the liberty of editing it a bit.
A devotee is one who practices devotion, or ardent dedication to a person or principle. I am a devotee of the Goddess. The Goddess as Mother, as metaphor, as Deity, as a paradigm. Over time my spiritual practices of connection shift and evolve, but they are always in devotion to Her. It is through Her, my body, my knowing, the femininity of our fertile Mother Earth that I understand the divine. It always leads back to the mysteries contained in me as a woman and therefore, of Her.
Acts of devotion:
Meditation
My work as a massage therapist
Art/creating
Baths
Lovemaking
Laughter
Dancing
Placing flowers in my home
Preparing food and taking it in
Feeding others
Believing
Truth
Honoring those around me
Touching the Earth
Breathing in, touching and diving into the Ocean
Singing to the Moon...
All of this and every other detail of daily life is and act of worship, devotion and conduit for connecting with the Divine in all of Her aspects.
